The Librarytop

The Guidepost is a library of business process handbooks, each of which is a published as a Volume in one or more Versions. A Volume describes accepted good practice in its subject area, and our authors have successful, in-depth, working experience of their subjects.

Every Version is published as a self-contained website, for access and use with many of the widely-available web browsers including:

  • Internet Explorer®;
  • OperaTM;
  • Firefox®;
  • Safari®;

either on-line or from a self-starting CDROM. All you need to use a Volume is a browser and a valid licence. Our licence prices are low, and for some Versions of our Volumes, a stand-alone licence is available free of charge.

Each Version can be supplied: as a service delivered to you via the internet from our server, on a self-booting CD, or installed on your own intranet.

We offer a variety of services which include: consultancy; customisation; development; installation and support (remote and on-site); and modular training courses. The Guidepost Services are available from our Resellers, and if required, directly from ourselves. This workbook shows how The Guidepost's Volumes, Versions, and Services are bundled and priced. If the licence for a Version includes a Service, there will be no additional charge, and if not, we will quote you a price.

The "What?"

Each Volume provides a process framework which supports the adoption of good working practice. It contains structured maps and layered descriptions of the process framework, detailed descriptions of each step in the process, a profile of each Product used in the management of the Process, and Templates of many of these products.

The "Why?"

If you need a handy reference, or want to improve the way you work, our Volumes will help you to get started, to progress, and to keep improving. The process framework in each Volume is well-proven and integrated with the Product Templates. We know it works - this is how we do it.

You are in control because you decide the scope of your implementation, and choose its level of detail. If you want to customise or enhance a Volume, we will work with you directly, or through one of our Licensed Resellers.

You also have control of your costs. Some Volumes have a Version which can be licenced free of charge, and where we charge for licences, their price is low.

Easy to use

Our technical approach has several objectives. We want each Volume to be as simple and as accessible as we can make it. Using it is just a matter of launching one of the widely-available web browsers.

Easy and economical to support

We aim to make customising, bespoke development, and maintenance both easy and economical. All pages are developed for compliance with XHTML1.0 strict, and all markup uses cascading stylesheets, which are validated against the interationally agreed specification for CSS2.1.

Each page is built automatically from source fragments using The Guidepost Toolkit, and testing is largely automated - we test every Version exhaustively with: Internet Explorer®, OperaTM, Firefox®, and Safari®. In addition, we analyse each page automatically to ensure that all its links are good. All Versions of a Volume have a common source base, which minimises the opportunity for error, and simplifies finding and correcting any errors or typos that we might have missed.

Easy to produce your own content

The Guidepost Toolkit makes it easy for you to produce your own content. For example we have developed locked Page Templates for preparing the content of a Volume. These were used to prepare the Process Step and Product Profile pages of Bids and Projects. You need only to have Microsoft® Office or Open Office installed. There is nothing else you need to acquire, and the way to use the Page Templates is all you have to learn. Its as simple as that!
