This is a definition of what the Project is to do. It is a refined and extended version of the Project Mandate, produced during a Bid as part of the Provisional Project materials, or by the Project Manager and agreed with the Project Board. It provides key information about the business context of the Project, information against which the ongoing viability of the Project is judged by the members of the Project Board.
Depending on the size and scale of the Project it can be included as a section or paragraph within the PID, or be a separate stand-alone document.
