Introductiontop
This Sub-process is where Manage Projects starts. To launch the Project, the successful Bid Manager will have briefed the designated Project Executive, and handed over the Bid File, and the Provisional Project Materials (including the Project Mandate, the Project Brief and the draft Project Plan).
The senior members of the Project Management Team will be appointed formally. From the drafts in the Bid File, a Project Initiation Document, a Quality Plan, and the Plan for the first Phase will be produced and submitted for Authorisation. The assignment of the initial Resources including effort, accomodation and technical facilities will be confirmed, and the Team Members will be mobilised. Project kickoff meeting(s) will be held to brief the Teams.
Appoint Managementtop
To get the Project started, its Project Management Team will be appointed formally. Their first task is to confirm the basis of their authority - their Job Descriptions and the Project Mandate. The initiation of the Project will be announced and this will cause the Project to be linked into corporate systems (e.g. Accounts).
The newly-appointed Project Manager will start the preparation of the Project Initiation Document (PID), and start activating the Resourcing Agreements (e.g. Team Leaders, Team members) agreed provisionally during the Bid. Job Descriptions will be completed and agreed.
Define Brieftop
Having confirmed the Project Mandate, the Project Manager will develop the Project Initiation Document, to give the Project its overall planning framework. This planning activity will include production from the Provisional Project Materials of: the Project Plan, the Quality Plan and the Plan for the Initiation Phase. The objective of this Sub-process is to create the Project's Brief or charter.

During the Bid, conditional Resourcing Agreements will have been set up. These will usually have included Resources and support from both internal and external parties (including Joint Bidders). Now the activation of these agreements will be completed.
The Quality Plan will be submitted for Authorisation, and the Project's support functions will be set up. The capture and use of various kinds of Project data (e.g. Risks, Issues, expenditure) will be started.
Plan first Delivery Phase/Stagetop
As the Project becomes established, and the Initiation Phase proceeds, the Project Manager will start the production of the detailed Plan for the first Delivery Phase. This might lead to some revision of the PID and the Quality Plan. When this first Phase Plan has been Authorised, work on the development of the solution will start.
