A description of the key features of a Product, defining clearly the attributes it must have in terms of: what it is for, its functions, its appearance, its level of quality; the Stage or Phase that produces it, and how it will be produced, developed or acquired, tested and Accepted. There are two types of Product:
- 1. Management Products, which are used in managing a Bid or Project). Because they are standard items, they have standard Product Descriptions and for this purpose you may use the Product Templates which are included with The Guidepost B&P. Alternatively you will find standard Product Descriptions in the PRINCE2™ handbook. In either case, the Quality of Management Products is checked, and they are Approved and/or Authorised by following the relevant Process Steps.
- 2. Specialist Products, which a Project is set up to produce. These can take almost any form, so a specific Product Description is needed for each one. A Product Template (see below) is included with The Guidepost, and this provides a way of capturing all the information needed to manage planning, production, test, and Acceptance of each Specialist Product
