Configuration Item Record (CIR)
description producers & consumers template example
Description top
A Record of the information about a Specialist Product’s status. The information recorded is about the physical status of the Product (e.g. who produced it?, what version it is, where it is stored, other related Products, its membership of Product Baselines, etc.).
A CIR is created when a Phase or Stage is being planned (see Generate Plan Detail). Configuration Item Records are kept as a set in a Project’s Configuration Folder. It is normal for CIRs to be updated and amended together as members of a Product Baseline.
The information a CIR contains will change as work on a Product progresses, for example when an Activity or a Workpackage is completed. The set of CIRs will also be vital for ensuring that a full and consistent set of completed Products can be assembled and delivered to the End User or Customer.
